Exhibition of Lao Buddha

From 13 to 17 February 2013 - 10.00 am 18.00 pm

The Buddhist art "Lao", which has developed in the last centuries,

has been deeply affected by Khmer and Thai cultures.

The exhibited sculptures present features rich in variety of styles.

Some of the Buddha on show, usually defined "Buddha folk" repre-

sent that popular production started at the end of the XIX century.

The sculptural technique is really simple, the patinas are often rough;

it is a "primitive", pure art, created for the village, it exspress charac-

ter and innocence.

The difficulty in recognizing a precise traditional style is due to the spe-

cific reality in which these sculptures originate, which were often realized

by simple artisans for "spiritual urgency".
